Teles Plumbing water Systems.

Whole house water filters and water softeners offer numerous benefits for your home. They ensure that every tap provides clean, filtered water, improving taste and reducing contaminants. Additionally, water softeners help prevent mineral buildup in plumbing and, prolonging their lifespan and enhancing efficiency. Together, they promote healthier living a more comfortable home environment.

Please note: these are approximate only.

Potassium Chloride

  • Effectiveness: Slightly less effective than sodium chloride, often requiring higher doses (~10% more).

  • Cost: More expensive (often 3–4 times the cost of sodium chloride).

  • Health Impact: Does not add sodium to water—potassium is an essential nutrient and can be beneficial for those concerned about sodium intake.

  • Environmental Impact: Generally considered more environmentally friendly, especially for septic systems and areas with salt discharge restrictions.

Using a whole house water filtration system (whole system tank) that combines activated carbon and catalytic carbon offers several key benefits:

1. Broad Spectrum Contaminant Removal

  • Activated carbon is excellent at removing:

    • Chlorine

    • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

    • Some pesticides and herbicides

    • Taste and odor issues

  • Catalytic carbon goes a step further and effectively removes:

    • Chloramines (a common disinfectant in municipal water that's harder to remove than chlorine)

    • Hydrogen sulfide (rotten egg smell)

    • Certain heavy metals (depending on formulation)

2. Improved Water Taste and Odor

  • The carbon media significantly reduces chemical tastes and odors, making water more pleasant for drinking, cooking, and bathing.

3. Healthier Skin and Hair

  • Reducing chlorine and chloramines can prevent dryness and irritation often caused by showering or bathing in chlorinated water.

4. Protects Plumbing and Appliances

  • Filtering out chemicals and sediment helps extend the life of water heaters, dishwashers, washing machines, and plumbing fixtures.

5. Low Maintenance

  • Whole-house carbon filtration systems typically require little maintenance and have long media life (often 5 years depending on usage and water quality).

6. Eco-Friendly

  • Reduces reliance on bottled water and prevents chemical buildup in wastewater, supporting environmental sustainability.

Sodium content

  • Typical levels. Each grain per gallon (gpg) of hardness removed adds roughly 7–8 mg of sodium per liter. So if your raw water is 10 gpg hard, softened water might have ~70–80 mg/L sodium.

  • Health impact. For a healthy adult, that amount is small compared to daily sodium intake (1,500–2,300 mg).

So for 10 gpg:

  • 1 gallon = 75 mg sodium

  • 8 oz glass = ~4.7 mg sodium

  • If someone drinks ½ gallon (64 oz) a day, that’s about 37.5 mg of sodium
